Do you agree that the X-Factor has ruined the race for Christmas number one?
I am fairly certain that Alexandra Burke's 'Hallelujah' would not have been the 2008 Christmas number one had she not have won the X Factor.
The dominating factor in Miss Burke's ascent to the top of the singles chart is undoubtedly that she won a television singing contest that has been screened live to the nation every Saturday night for the past two months.
I also feel that X Factor winners has a great unfair advantage insofar as their CD singles are always stocked by all major music stockists, including all the major supermarkets; even the bankrupt Woolworths found the capital to bulk buy Alexandra Burke's single! Yet very few retailers stock any other current CD singles. Where is Take That's 'Greatest Day', Leona Lewis's 'Run' or Kings of Leon's 'Use Somebody' (to name just a few)?
Personally I believe future series of X-Factor should be screened so that the winner is decided away from Christmas. Let's allow the race for Christmas number one actually be a contest again!
Yes, I could not agree more and as long as the X Factor is running, the Christmas No 1 will always be predicitable.
