Deer and Rasberries,do they eat them?
I just planted 5 nursery stock rasberry stems and I need to know if I should fence then in from the deer or will they eat the stems?What other good deer repellents are their?
I'm not sure if deer will eat raspberries, but I do have a good deer/rodent repellent recipe. Put a dozen eggs, shells and all, and a whole clove of garlic through a blender with some water. Pour the resulting slurry into a sturdy gallon bottle, fill the gallon with water, cap it, and put it somewhere warm to ferment. In Delaware, the garage in summer is just fine. Wait until it smells hideous, sulphurous, dangerous - - not long - a week is plenty - and then water around the plants you wish to protect. It will smell utterly vile until it dries, but then fade to human detection in a day or so. It drove the rabbits from my garden very effectively, and I'm told it works for deer, too. Same basic ingredients as Liquid Fence, only about $2/ gallon instead of $20. Lasts 2 or 3 weeks unless there's a lot of rain, in which case you'd reapply. Good luck!
(although the ingredients are obviously food safe, kids generally feel better if they don't see this in the same blender they use for smoothies. I got a used blender for $4 at a Goodwill, so no one complains about my garden potions)
