How and when is an offer price greater than bid price for a stock?
I am a novice investor trying to clear my basics. I have seen some offer prices of a stock or ETF greater than the bid price. Ideally is it not suppose to be the other way round for a company to make profit??
I assume you meant to say you have seen some bid prices greater than the offer price. (The offer price is usually greater than the bid price.)
When the bid price equals the offer price it is known as a locked market. When the bid price is greater than the ask price it is known as a crossed market. This can occur when a security is traded in more than one place and the bid at one location is greater than the offer at another location.
