Are we on the verge of a stock market crash and second great depression?
In September 1929 the stock market lost 16% of its value. On October 29, 1929, the market crashed. The Great Depression followed and it wasn't until twenty-five years later (1954) that the stock market reached its pre-crash levels.
Today, despite a $750 billion bailout, the US markets are volatile and falling. The world financial markets are falling too. The nation of Iceland can't get credit. It's unprecedented.

The big story that the media doesn't touch is the derivatives market.
This is roughly how it will go:
In the next few weeks several banks will fail nothing to big but expect a few, meanwhile the hedge funds that are deepest in will start to collapse while the credit default swaps begin to unwind many state economies that are on the verge will scramble to cover their short positions and require emergency coverage from the federal government. Of course the big question will come on OPEC and whether they will take it lying down or not. There will be a slow motion crash expect to see another round of sell offs probably a bottom at around 7000 in the Dow and 650 S&P. There will be huge inflationary pressures in 6-12 months coupled with a commodities surge in food, gold, silver and probably oil. The Euro may be the real shocker and fall below the dollar which will be racing to the floor. You will see bankruptcies on national scale perhaps France, Germany and many emerging markets. Depression yep. The question are the variables.
