Background applications; do these impact performance?
I'm running;
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (Stock @ 3.0GHz)
RAM: 4GB Geil Black Dragon DDR2-800
Graphics Card: XFX GTS 250 512MB DDR3
Hard Drives: Generic 500GB SATA2
PSU: CIT 750W
I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1. With that in mind, should having MS Outlook 2007 running in the background (minimized to the system tray) impact the performance of the PC at all? Additionally I also have Windows Live Messenger running most of the time, again is it known to be resource heavy at all?
In advance; please don't say "go back to XP if you don't want a resource hungry machine" because I like Vista. I just wondered if anyone knows of those apps to actually really effect performance at all by running in the background. Also I did use ObjectDock Plus for a while, running 1 dock (no docklets). Would any of those be expected to impair performance at all?
Cheers,
Dean
ANY program running impacts performance. Whether it impacts it enough to matter depends on you. If you need every single ounce of computing power, kill anything you don't need. If you're looking to get a 50% improvement by closing Outlook, you won't get it.
