Cut your losers...let your winners ride?
I've often heard "Cut your losers and let your winners ride" regarding STOCK PICKS. I understand that you definitely want to cut your losses, but why would you let your winners ride instead of profit taking when you think it's pretty closed to maxed out? Thanks!
You cut your losses when the price of the investment drops 8%-10% of the purchase price. But when you have profits, you let them ride BUT you tighten up on your STOCK LOSS, so that if there is a sell of off, you take your profits.
You never buy a stock unless you know when and where you are going to get out, So you control your position with stop loss orders.
If a STOCK MOVES up a given percentage point and you're happy with that much profit, then take. If not just keep a stop loss order in close to the market price
Remember, you never get hurt taking a profit. Whatever makes you happy and you are satisfied with.
