How to begin investing in stock?
I'm 18 years old, have the money, but really no idea what to do.
I want to open a brokerage account, perferablly from e-Trade or AmeriTrade, but still pretty timid on what the Do's and Don'ts are.
Can anyone give me a quick run down, or suggest any articles, books, TV programs, websites or magazines I should look into inorder to get a better understand on what to do?

Etrade is the best site, but you have to have a certain minimum in your account or a certain number of trades each month or they deduct money for fees. Go to their website and type in fees. you can see it all.
Some friends use Scott Trade. It's not as good as Etrade, because you can't set the price you want to buy a stock at and forget about it. But from what I understand you can hold your stocks there without fees.
All you do pretty much is wire or transfer money in from an exisiting checking account. I would recommend buying safe stocks to start out and get a feel for it. Think of a company you believe will last 10+ years. Walmart, General Electric, etc. Stocks like Walmart and General Electric pay a quarterly dividend, which means you get paid say... ten cents (in GE'S STOCK) for every share you own. You can keep that money, or reinvest it to automatically buy more stock.
If you hold stock less than a year, you have to pay short term gains (Expensive). If you hold it longer than a year it is long term gains.
So, I'd not suggest buying a bunch of stuff and selling and buying and selling. Also, It's usually a waste of time unless you can buy 100 shares of something at the very least. That way every time it goes up a dollar, you've made a hundred dollars
