STOCK METLIFE
list ALL the stocks when they are the same on schedule D?
I'm new to STOCK PURCHASING--just started last year. Now I have to deal with schedule D Like most new investors I "jumped around" in buying and selling. Just recently got my (scottrade) 1099. For example, I sold off METLIFE stock-- 20 here, 50 there and so on about a dozen times through 2008. Here's another small example--Alcoa sold 16 shares 3/31-/08, for 565.00,then later the day (3/31) sold 27 shares of Alcoa and got $964, then 4/02/08 sold the last 10 shares and got $357. How can I list this? and I'm not even talking about METLIFE, with, as I say, a dozen sell transactions over 2008-- also, the 1099 does not list the sale price at that moment of each sale.
The dreaded schedule D.
Its hard to explain how to make the schedule D easier but here it goes:
Find the Total cost for all shares bought and later sold of a certain stock... Now Subtract Total proceeds of that company. Whatever you get thats what you report. If you need a date in your return use the last day sold of said stock.
