who is responsible for the financial mismanagement in USA? The banks,Stock market,the financial institutions?
I wish to survey the Yahoo to ascertain the views of the readers regarding the responsibility of the crisis. who should face the tune? What happens if the common people's lust for money is the source of trouble?
I blame the American people. Sure ACORN threatened to take down banks that didn't make subprime loans. Sure these mortgage-backed securities were making tons of money and they "just couldn't pass up" buying them to keep up with the stupid Jones'. Sure the government could've added new regulations.
But when it comes down to it, Americans themselves are to blame for 95% of this mess. I bought a house and I knew to take a fixed rate and that I needed a sizeable down payment and I bought when I was 24! Why didn't anyone else know these things? Why do I work for a mortgage company that never did subprime loans, that never bought nor made mortgage-backed securities? What did our CEO know that apparently nobody else in America did? I think the big companies knew the risk but completely ignored it because all they saw was $$$$.
We as Americans own stock in all these financial companies yet don't seem to care about what they're doing as long as they're giving us dividends. The Freddie Mac CEO cooked the books to get himself bonuses, why are we finding out about it 5 years after he did it? It just amazes me that there is absolutely no transparency in financial sector and the American people are still not demanding it!
I think you've got it right though, this crisis was caused by people's lust for money and for the "American dream" of owning a big house on the hill- even if they only made minimum wage at McDonalds.
The government can't protect us from stupidity.
