how do i teach my horse western training?
hey i have a pinto i am currently riding in english and i have now just thought tht i want to train him to be a western pleasure horse, how can i teach him to not be afraid of whips so i can do whip cracking in stockmans challanges cos he hates them atm, and how do i teach him to do i sliding stop, turn on one back leg and be a better barrel racer cos atm he goes around really wide. ?
One, he has to be bred right, or you will have a hell of time trying to get him do any of it. To teach a sliding stop, the horse has to first be muscled and built correctly to do it. For this reason, quarter horses excell at these activities due to their overall shape, and musculo-skeltal system. To turn on one hind for to perform a rollback or the "turnaround" again he needs to be built right. These are delicate procedures that take time, patience and need to be overseen by professional guidance if you don't already know how to do it.
